A short history of SEAT cars.

1950 - SEAT, short for Sociedad Espanola de Automoviles de
Tourismo S.A. is launched om May 9th 1950
-
1953 - The Zona Franca factory is inaugurated and the first
SEAT, a rebadged Fiat 1400, is built.

1957 - SEAT (Fiat) 600 production begins.Mass
motorisation of spain starts.

1965 - First exports start, to Colombia.

1968 - The millionth SEAT is produced.

1974 - The second-millionth SEAT is produced.

1975 - Technical Centre in Martorell opens.

1982 - Industrial and commercial cooperation agreements are
signed with Volkswagen.

1984 - The first SEAT Ibiza model is built.

1986 - VW fist buys 51 percent of SEAT and then ups it's stake
to 75 percent. Exports start to Europe. SEAT Sport is founded.

1989 - Martorell factory construction begins.

1990 - VW ups it's stake in SEAT to 99.99 percent.

1991 - First SEAT model developed in the VW group. The SEAT
Toledo is launched.

1993 - Martorell factory opens. Second generation Ibiza begins
manufacture. New Cordoba presented.

1995 - The ten-millionth SEAT is built.

1996 - SEAT wins the WRC Kit Car championship with the SEAT
Ibiza. Alhambra large MPV launched.

1997 - SEAT Ibiza Kit Car wins again. Arosa and Cordoba Vario
added to the range.

1998 - New face of SEAT is presented on the next generation
Toledo. SEAT Ibiza kit car wins again.

1999 - New SEAT Leon is launched.

2000 - Presentation of Salsa concept car, which previewed the
brand's new styling direction. SEAT celebrates 50th anniversary.

2001 - High performance Leon Cupra R prototype is presented.
SEAT Tango concept is shown. New Ibiza is launced.

2002 - SEAT becomes a memeber of the Audi brand group. New
Cordoba lanched. Leon Supercoba returns to the racetracks.

2003 - Toledo GT is champion in its first year of competition
in Spanish GT championship. SEAT shows the Leon Cupra R, Ibiza Cupra and Altea
prototype.

2004 - Altea mini MPV launched. Ibiza FR and Cupra models
launched.

2005 - New Leon launched.

2006 - SEAT is launched in South Africa.
