LATEST WESBANK PRODUCTION CAR SERIES STANDINGS: Class T standings - Kyalami 5 July 2008 1. Graham Nathan – 120 (SEAT LEON CUPRA)
SEAT SPORT LOOKING TO CONTINUE THEIR GOOD FORM The SEAT Sport Racing Team are preparing for the season opener this weekend, March 15th, at the historic Kyalami circuit in Midrand. The occasion marks the start of the 2008 National Racing calendar and SEAT Sport are hoping for much of the same pace, that they showed at the season closing race last November. The mighty SEAT Leon Cupra romped to a pole-position, race win and lap record - all on debut. Class T, for turbo-charged cars under 200kw, has been somewhat extended since last season and the team will now face stiff opposition from Ford (with the Focus ST), Renault's Megane, MINI and Mazda 3 (with a brace of MPS models). Their main rivals, Volkswagen, will be competing in the class with no less than 7 GTi's. The SEAT Leon Cupra's will once again be raced by seasoned campaigners Graeme Nathan and Philip Kekana. Earlier this year SEAT Sport, based in Barcelona Spain, tested some of their world touring cars at Kyalami race track. The SEAT South Africa racing team had the opportunity to tap into their reservoir of technical knowledge and expertise. Carrin Merkel, SEAT Sales and Marketing Manager, said “this has been invaluable and will ensure that the SEAT Leon Cupras that will be racing in the 2008 South African Production Car Championships will have even more of a winning edge over competitors.” Racing a brand new car at the final race of the year was a brave move, however, it gave the team invaluable input on the strengths of their opposition and they have managed to take that information back to the proverbial drawing board and make further improvements to the already dominant car. It has also given the competing teams something to think about and they have not spent the last few months idly. The bar has been raised considerably, by SEAT and the other teams have taken up the challenge, all of which augers well for a thrilling season of hot-hatch action. |
